Iona Etornam Gordon (b.2002, Accra,Ghana)
Iona Gordon is a multidiciplinary artist born in Accra, raised in London, specialising in painting, poetry and photography. Iona’s works are a vibrant exploration of identity and community which have been shaped by her Scottish and Ghanaian heritage.
Delving into themes of belonging and escapism, Iona uses her vivid colour palette to explore the delicate balance of stillness whilst manoevring through the chaos of growing up in London.
Inspired deeply by the landscapes of her parents birthplaces and their traditional garments, paintings like ‘Greenock Gales’ and ‘Mangos A Plenty’ celebrate the joy and tranquility that come from being connected to family, to community.
Her works serve as both an escape and reminder to slow down, embrace the beauty of togetherness and reconnection to our roots . It is the absence of community that can leave one yearning for the support and connection that is inherent in the looming presence of individualism.
